System Engineer Workplace

Context:
For the Workplace platform of Infrastructure Services (IS), we are looking for an Expert profile to join the team. The Workplace platform aims to support all employees with a workstation (laptop/VDI) that is secure, performant, and equipped with all necessary software for their function. Ensuring virus definitions and Windows OS are up to date with minimal user disruption is a key priority. The team actively participates in various ICT projects.
Recent experiences indicate flaws in software distribution, security policy implementation, and adherence to best practices. The use of multiple software distribution technologies has resulted in a lack of a single source of truth for reporting, leading to inefficiencies and frustration.
More workloads are being migrated from on-premises infrastructure to the cloud, including the VDI platform. The objective is to implement the right technologies and methodologies from the start to ensure a seamless transition.
Key Objectives:
We are seeking an Expert who is available immediately to support the team, provide guidance, and implement best practices. This role requires innovative thinking in selecting the right tools and solutions.
The migration to Windows 11 presents an opportunity to eliminate inefficiencies, improve system image, software, and patch distribution, and rationalize and simplify tools. The transition to a Unified Endpoint Management SaaS platform is under consideration.
The plan is to migrate the VDI platform to the cloud. The goal is not to replicate the current environment but to implement an efficient solution based on best practices. Work will be conducted in an agile manner, ensuring regular and immediately usable results.
Responsibilities:

Expertise in security features, complex password policies, and PAM.

Software distribution (SCCM/MDM).

Manage security updates for Windows 10/11.
-
Upgrade and update management for Windows 10/11.
-
Staging and maintenance of VDI images.
-
Security (PC), Firewall, Defender Endpoint.

Management of Group Policies (GPO).
-
Support at Windows L3 level.
-
Development of endpoints (laptops, desktops, equipment choices) + L3.

Collaborate with service owners and other teams to implement software and security solutions.

Automate existing manual processes and workflows.
-
Contribute to the development of standards and best practices for the Workplace platform.

Guide colleagues in adopting new technologies or practices.

Maintain and manage existing Workplace tools.

Collaborate with Platform teams, IT Services, and Software Development to determine requirements and solutions.

Analyze problems to prevent recurrence.
Desired Skills and Experience:

Expert knowledge of modern software distribution tools and best practices.

Experience implementing and managing (cloud) VDI solutions.

Excellent programming experience with PowerShell, preferably with basic knowledge of Python or JavaScript.

Experience in large-scale, 24/7 enterprise environments where uptime and stability are critical.

Strong experience with public and private cloud (Azure, AWS).

In-depth knowledge of Windows operating systems, Active Directory, Defender, and Intune.

Interest in trends, especially in cloud, endpoint security, and the Microsoft portfolio.
