Functional/Business Analyst – Insurance & Banking Sector

Contract Type: Permanent or Freelance
Location: Brussels – Partial remote work available
Languages Required: French and Dutch – English is a strong asset


Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Functional/Business Analyst to support strategic initiatives in the insurance and banking sectors. The ideal candidate will act as a bridge between business stakeholders and technical teams, ensuring that business needs are accurately captured, analyzed, and translated into effective functional solutions. Experience in regulated environments and familiarity with sector-specific processes is essential.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth business analysis within insurance (life/non-life, claims, brokerage, policy management) and banking (retail, lending, compliance, payments) domains.
  • Facilitate workshops and interviews with stakeholders to gather and challenge requirements.
  • Produce detailed functional deliverables including business requirements documents, user stories, BPMN/UML diagrams, and traceability matrices.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Owners, Project Managers, and development teams throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Define and execute functional test plans, manage defect tracking, and support user acceptance testing.
  • Ensure alignment with regulatory requirements such as GDPR, Solvency II, MiFID, AML, and others.
  • Contribute to process optimization and digital transformation initiatives.

Technical & Functional Expertise

  • Tools & Technologies:

  • JIRA, Confluence, ServiceNow
  • BPMN, UML (using tools like Enterprise Architect, Visio)
  • SQL (basic querying)
  • Testing tools: HP ALM, TestRail, Postman (API testing)
  • Familiarity with sector platforms such as Guidewire, SAB, Temenos, BDoc
  • Methodologies:

  • Agile/Scrum or SAFe frameworks
  • Waterfall (depending on project context)
  • Domain Knowledge:

  • Proven experience in insurance and/or banking environments
  • Understanding of operational, compliance, and customer-facing processes
