System Engineer (Linux)

Role Overview:
As a System Engineer (Linux), you will be responsible for managing and implementing various components within an On-premise and Cloud environment. You'll collaborate closely with different service providers to ensure smooth operations, particularly in a hybrid infrastructure that includes Windows, Linux, Microsoft365, Active Directory, Security, Monitoring, and Azure IaaS/Paas. The role is full-time with flexibility for partial remote work, although a minimum of two days per week on-site in Gosselies is required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist Technical Designers in developing infrastructure designs to ensure system coherence.
- Implement changes related to infrastructure upgrades and modifications.
- Develop and execute deployment scripts.
- Install and configure Linux-based systems.
- Monitor system performance and apply fine-tuning as necessary.
- Implement and manage backup and restore operations.
- Handle 3rd-level support tickets, escalating and liaising with external service providers when needed.
- Analyze recurring incidents, propose solutions, or escalate to the Service Manager.
- Oversee security updates and patch management in collaboration with the release management team.
- Produce operational and technical documentation.
- Provide key performance indicators (KPI) for system performance, availability, and quality.
- Optimize system operations for cost efficiency.
- Participate in on-call rotations and off-hours interventions when necessary.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Must Have:
- Strong expertise with RedHat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and SuSE Enterprise.
- Experience with virtualization platforms like VMware and Hyper-V.
- Proficient in scripting languages (Bash, Python, Perl).
- Familiarity with file systems (ext4, xfs, NFS).
- Solid understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN).
- Competence in security management (SELinux, iptables, firewalld).
- Experience with common services (HTTPD, NGINX, Samba, LDAP).
- Familiarity with monitoring and performance tools (Zabbix, SCOM, Azure Monitor, Grafana).
- Knowledge of storage systems (SAN/NAS).
- IT architecture understanding.
- Technical English proficiency.
Should Have:
- Experience with RedHat-based distributions (CentOS, Fedora).
- Familiarity with configuration management tools (Ansible, Chef).
- Knowledge of PKI/Certificates and Active Directory.
- Experience with Azure Cloud (PAAS/IAAS).
Nice to Have:
- Exposure to other Linux distributions.
